I'm surprised to hear people talking about that, 'cause very few know that about Somalia... you're so right, the Shanghai was once the "Beach Club" and its building reflected it was once a very beautiful spot of Mogadishu, where one could also find some of the best hotels in Mogadishu.
But today, the Shanghai is completely destroyed and the area is controlled by the warlords. It was consider as an off limit area where it's safer not to step out of the technical (truck). Photography was limited only inside the technical. Though you can still find some of the beauty once the place had.
